Research governance and disclosure

How research roles, data and commercial interest are kept separate.

This page holds the full detail moved off the Research and Universities pages: how a study that touches an Edney Learn instrument is governed, and what a developmental result may and may not be used for.

01 · Separation of roles

Four roles that must not be collapsed into one.

Where research uses an Edney Learn instrument or dataset, the following are recorded and reported separately for every study. This is a governance requirement, not a formality.

02 · Purpose separation

Service delivery and research are separate purposes.

Delivering a product to a customer and conducting research are different activities with different consent, and they are kept apart deliberately. Being a customer, participant, employee or student does not constitute consent to research participation. Research consent is sought separately, for the specific study, and can be declined without affecting any service.

03 · Commercial-interest disclosure

Stated in full.

I hold a commercial interest in Edney Learn, which owns the instruments referred to in this research. That interest is disclosed in agreements and in any publication involving those instruments. Instrument version, and whether the work is exploratory, calibration or confirmatory, must be stated in any publication. A commercial relationship does not by itself constitute research consent.

04 · Developmental-release limits

What a developmental result may and may not be used for.

It may support personal reflection, a development conversation, and a structured discussion about where to focus.

  • It does not establish verified competence.
  • It has no population norm, percentile or ranking.
  • It must not be used for hiring, dismissal, promotion, compensation, grading, certification, eligibility, clinical judgment or any other consequential decision about an individual.
