Twenty years asking a question that practice could not answer.
Practitioner, then researcher, then the person trying to design the conditions rather than complain about them.
Capability is a design problem. Someone is always the designer, and it should not be an accident.
01 · The journey
Practitioner, then researcher, then architect.
The route ran from electronics business development through business analysis, IT project management and R&D programme management. Two decades of watching capable people succeed and fail under conditions nobody had designed on purpose. That is the question the doctorate went after: why does capability develop in some conditions and not others, when the people are equally capable and equally willing?

Twenty years before the doctorate.
The industry background is not decoration on an academic profile. It is the reason the work is about professional conditions rather than classroom conditions.

Twenty years at Compaq, Agilent Technologies and Keysight Technologies. Two things from that period shaped everything since. Enterprise data governance taught me that a standard nobody can apply is not a standard. R&D programme management at Keysight taught me that a plan assuming capability nobody has verified is not a plan, and that precision measurement is unforgiving about the difference.

Three degrees across three disciplines.
The sequence matters more than the list: engineering, then management, then education, each taken while working.

Technology Management, Graduate School of Business. The bridge between technical delivery and the commercial and organisational systems around it.

Mechanical Engineering. The origin of a habit that runs through everything since: treating a problem as a system to be understood before it is a situation to be improved.
A doctorate establishes research training. It is not offered here as evidence that any product works.

05 · Research interests
Where the questions come from.
Learning environments, community of inquiry, and whether the conditions that produce learning outcomes hold equally across different learners. The current direction extends that into professional capability, judgment and human–AI workflow governance.
06 · Why Edney Learn exists
The ideas only matter if somebody builds them.
The research kept arriving at the same place: the ideas only matter if somebody builds them into how work actually runs, and that is a different job from writing about it. It needs delivery, support, contracts, evidence and people who answer the phone when something breaks.
So I founded Edney Learn to do that part. The thinking stays here, in public and free to argue with. The building, and the accountability for whether it works, sits there.
